“Wet Paint Live” (WPL) is a new outdoor painting event in Springfield, Vermont. On October 10, 2015, visitors and art hounds alike will have a “live view” of artists as they paint scenes of the town in “Plein Air”(in the fresh air).
Artists will discover Springfield is an exciting subject for artistic expression. Historic and scenic vistas in the “Precision Valley”, and the Black River’s storied waterway that winds its way to the Connecticut River, are at the heart of Springfield.
Visitors will enjoy the meandering Black River and its three powerful water falls , named “Comtu” or “Great Noise” by native Americans who once looked upon these waters, as they stroll along the Plein Air Walk. This corner of Vermont displays fall’s glorious color and a once-in-a-century reminder of Vermont’s precision manufacturing past that begs to be painted.
WPL takes place on a “Plein Air Loop” where artists will paint at their easels. Each location has been carefully selected with both artist and viewer in mind. The walk is conveniently located near restaurants, The Gallery at the VAULT (a Vermont State Craft Center), and the popular Vermont Apple Festival.
Artists will paint live from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30. There will also be two featured Artist Demonstrations set up during this time. While the other artists will be focused on producing a final product for judging, Jamie Townsend and Matthew P. Chinian will be painting, taking the time to describe what they are doing and available to answer questions from the public. The paintings they produce will not be judged, but may be available for purchase.
From 3:30 to 6:00, the public is invited to the Great Hall where Paintings completed on location that day will be displayed and available for purchase. Paintings will be judged by Robert Carsten, PSA-M an internationally known artist residing in Springfield.
Artists may register to participate until September 30, 2015.
